CNN: Bye, bye Saturday mail?
It must be tough having to compete with the constantly expanding communication technology. I remember the good ole' days where the latest update on distant family and friends was received through a handwritten letter or postcard.
People knew what time to look for the bearer of (good) news; he was their life-line with the far away outside world; one they usually could not visit due to lack of a car. Telephones were sparse an only used for medical emergencies. Nowadays, communications have shifted to phone calls and Internet.
I have great appreciation for the mail deliverers. Snow, rain, heat, frost, they face it all making sure we get our mail. We may not always want it because it is usually bills these days, but still. Now, with the postal service is in so much debt, guess who gets shot? Yup, the messenger.
As for us..., at least we know what to expect on the Mondays.
Bulk mail!
