CNN: Obama makes 2016 Olympics pitch for Chicago
It sure would be an economic boost if the 2016 Olympics would be held in Chicago. On the other hand, organizing those games cost a truck load of money as well. What puzzles me is why it specifically has to be Chicago; as if there are no other American cities with the same 'community spirit and diversity'.
Another remark the President made was that 'the games would remind the U.S. of their links to the world'. That is all good and well, were it not for the fact that he already created a division between Chicago and the rest of the U.S. with his previous statement. Maybe the games would remind Chicago of its links to the U.S.?
Don't get me wrong; I can totally understand chauvinism, but the U.S. consists of more then just this one city. Being the head of such a large nation, one would expect that the team spirit would have precedence over the community spirit.
Oh well, if this Olympic pitch does not work out then maybe a pitch for the Chicago Bears will.
