There you are; thinking it would be good for your son to join the boy scouts where he will learn some more values, team work and survival techniques. It is good for building up his character, confidence and his physical fitness. Those are all good qualities and abilities and off he goes.

You are eagerly awaiting his return, wanting to know what he learned and how he liked it. He comes back full of excitement, loving the whole experience and can hardly wait to show you the reward for his hard labor: a merit pin for video gaming. Huh???????

Yeah, he learned the values of being a couch potato, the teamwork of his thumbs and the survival techniques in and of a virtual, non-existing world. The character he chose to be in the game got built up, confidence in being able to play the game to a successful end was boosted and the strength, coordination and speed of his thumbs improved tremendously.

There is no two ways about the fact that he came back with all the qualities and abilities you had anticipated. Whether those are good or not is debatable. Oh well, at least you know what to do when you need to 'ground' him.
