MSNBC: When dollar stores are too expensive
The million-dollar question would be why someone would pay top dollar for something they need, when the same can be purchased for just one buck? I would suspect that question may have been the foundation when the idea arose for opening a new chain of stores.
It certainly was a noble thought and goal, offering the public a place they could buy one dollar items, but I don't think they considered the fact that eventually the dollar wouldn't stretch as far as it used to and they would have to raise their prices in order to stay in business.
My own experience is that it is still a huge relief finding what you need at a reasonable price, while trying to avoid the wall at specific marts which have appeared several times already in front of our eyes.
I don't think anyone would mind if they changed the name of their stores to the Two Dollar Store, The Bottom Dollar Tree or Roll Back General. The buck has to stop somewhere and it has been proven over and over again it will.
Usually, where you get the best bang for it!
