CBS: Poll: Most Oppose Paying Students for Success
In my opinion it has always been best to learn something from the bottom up, but I also am from the old school when it comes to extra payment to students to attend school, get a good grade and so forth.
Yes, extra payments because most parents already reward their children with money and gifts for coming home with a good report card at the end of the semester. That in itself should already prod kids to put forth the effort.
College and University students, who are not living on campus, but in Student Accomodation in Leeds for instance, may not have enough money to sustain themselves. Taking a job is the only way to make it through their years of education and I can see them only becoming a better person for it.
Having to work for something may teach them having more appreciation for others, their labor, their achievements and it gives more fullfillment reaching their goal through their own hard labor as well. It will pay off later when they obtain a good job.
Nothing comes easy, but why teach kids they get paid for something that is already mandatory? "Hey, you drug yourself out of bed and showed up in class today! Good job. Here are a couple of $$$."
That would have been quite different in the old days: "Wanting to skip school?? Go cut yourself a switch!"
Times sure have changed. Oh well, live and learn.
