I have to admit those houses are gorgeous, but they are also extremely large and it seems almost impossible to me to either keep them cool or warm enough, depending on the time of year.

One would already have to be a millionaire being able to pay the power bill, unless the house is constructed with energy-efficient and energy-saving materials. It would make sense to use ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) for that, in order to achieve the highest goal of cost-effectiveness.
