ABC: Biggest Python in Fla. Snake Hunt Released Into the Wild

My first reaction was one of disbelief. Why on earth would they go through such great length of capturing them, just to release those predators back in the wild? That was just so much snake oil.

Visions of throwing back a fish you aren't going to eat and caught just for the sport of it flashed before my eyes. The big difference is however that fish are on our menu and pythons are not. We may be on theirs.

I decided to pursue the subject and broaden my worm's eye view. I am glad I did. It so turns out those released pythons are allowed to snake along in order to catch many more. In other words; they function as bait. I suppose you have to give a little to get a lot.

Even though it is all done for all intents and purposes and with good reason, I am not comfortable with the idea of those slithering creatures being set back and thriving in the wild, occupying the Everglades. Before you know it, they expand their territory to many other states like those wild hogs did.

We really can do without that and I hope this effort is fruitful and yields the desired results. We are already trying to cope with way too many snakes in the grass as it is!
