CNN: 7 ways to kickstart your metabolism
A fast metabolism means burning more calories which promotes weight loss. That is great, because normally in order to loose some extra pounds it calls for having to get of the couch, pumping some iron, and wearing yourself out by doing cardio exercises.
There is something else to take into account: exercise requires energy. That energy is generated by carbohydrates which your body turns into a sugar called glucose and keeping a check on your glucose levels is of the utmost importance when you suffer from diabetes.
When you have diabetes then you know that counting carbs plays an essential role in keeping your blood sugar at a healthy level. Whether you guzzle down an energy drink that is high in carbs, or consume low carb pita bread can make all the difference in the world.
Complex carbohydrates which are often found in bread, pastas, rice, cereals, and vegetables increase digestion and as a result boost your metabolism. That doesn't mean you can eat all you want. If you want to sustain a healthy weight then the extra carbs you take in still need to be burned by converting them into energy.
A fat-burning, daily yoga session, the calorie-burning 8 to 12 glasses of water per day, adding flaming-hot, metabolism-boosting mustard to my salad, and the intervals between work-outs, have a much greater appeal to me. Most of that also requires some effort and energy though.
I think I would rather prefer a low carb, tasty diet!
