CNN: Tall order: Scale monument for repairs

I saw this headline yesterday and wondered what plans they came up with to restore the damage the earthquake left behind on the monument. I can't imagine they would just leave it as is; that would present a huge danger in the near future.

We know that eventually it will all fall to dust, but as an engineer you like to fix it the best way possible without having to bring out all the pneumatic conveying equipment when it can be avoided.

It is quite a complicated profession and not for everyone. I was pleased to read that ABC: 'Sesame Street' Encourages Kids in Engineering, because we may need them, especially where it concerns pneumatic conveying; there are a lot of unwanted gasses and by-products which need to be disposed of in a responsible manner.

Of course there are businesses and services that are extremely capable and entirely focused on pneumatic conveying, but if no fresh blood is available to take it over, we would be left without a breath soon. Since we all like to take a deep breath of fresh air, we would do wisely to prevent that.

The future is in the hands of our children, but at present it is up to us to ensure they have a future!
