Fox News: Supermarkets Start Bagging Self-Checkout Lanes

I don't honestly know whether that is such a good idea or not. The self-checkout lane has both pros and cons and it would be wise making a list to see which one comes out on top.

The advantages of having the assistance of a cashier are that your items are scanned and bagged for you. The downside is that you are dependant on her speed, while you are in control of that at the self-checkout.

If something goes wrong during the scanning process by the cashier, he/she usually has to call for assistance from a supervisor. When something goes wrong at the self-checkout, you usually have to call for the same assistance.

A cashier can make or break your day by his/her disposition. A social cashier can hold up the works with too much chit-chat and a grumpy cashier can ruin your shopping experience. You won't have that problem at the self-checkout, unless you are talking to yourself.

I guess it all depends on what you prefer, but I wouldn't mind if they bagged those self-checkout lanes. I would be first in line to take one home and check out whenever it suits me from the comforts of my lazy chair. There is one problem though; I don't have the cargo space nor the transportation for it.

Can someone call for assistance, please?
