MSNBC: Americans expect to work longer, retire later
It sure seems like we have our work cut out for us and even though a little work never hurt anyone, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. We probably all already anticipated having to work longer, but still had the faint hope it wouldn't come to fruition.
We have been and are working our fingers to the bone and the only thing that has kept and is keeping us going is the light at the end of the tunnel; retirement. That light just got a little smaller, because that wonderful dream of having all that spare time after all those years of hard work is put on the backburner.
With the anticipation of retiring later turning into an expectation, our bucket list has to be postponed. I sure hope that is all there is to it, although I have a slight suspicion that might be an idle hope as well; to postpone often leads to putting it off entirely.
Maybe that is what the government is hoping for and they pass the bucket by saying it was our own choice. I don't really think we have much choice, if any at all, and I don't expect having to work longer and being able to retire later.
I expect having to work!
