CNN: A day without a cell phone
That may not necessarily be a bad thing. We have made it thousands of years without walking around with this result of modern technology in our pockets or hands and survived perfectly fine without it.
When push comes to shove, we may have done better without it, because life was not as hectic and stressed and no one was constantly calling (on) you to do this, that, or the other, or taking up all your time by the need to share mostly superficial information.
Social life has dwindled tremendously. When was the last time you visited and spent some quality time with friends and family and visa versa? When was the last time when something productive came out of the hands of the children other then a text message?
Take their cell phones away and they are up a creek without a paddle, feeling lonely and disconnected from the world. When asked why not go and drop by their friends, they refuse, because that takes too much time, trouble, and most of all; energy.
On the other hand, they are constantly calling their friends and talking their heads off, but will hardly say a word otherwise. That is also different from the days gone by. That may not necessarily be a bad thing either.
At times, silence is golden!
