CNN: Could the U.S. shut down the internet?

I don't really understand the question. Of course they can shut down the Internet; where there is a will, there is a way and anything is possible. The question should be; should the U.S. shut down the Internet if there was a situation which would call for doing so?

It would seem that would go against the freedom of speech, the freedom of opinion, and the freedom to write. Nowadays, it would also result in a lot of people and businesses loosing their income, because so many transactions and jobs are being done by making use of and through the Internet.

It could well be they already gave it a try; CNN: Ticker: White House loses email. If that is the case, then at least they didn't inconvenience anyone else, which is a good thing.

If you want to make the world a better place; start with yourself!
